Biography - Karen Goetzinger
Karen Goetzinger was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and after a number of moves including to Minnesota and New York is currently living in Ottawa. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design with an emphasis in Fine Arts. Karen is known for her finely detailed mixed media textile constructions that are influenced by her roots in quilt making, couture construction, and her life-long passion for the urban landscape.
Her installation piece - A State of Transparency- was shown at the worlds largest art prize competition, ArtPrize 2011. Her works have also been exhibited by museums, public and private galleries throughout North America, in Times Square, New York, hang in private collections internationally and were featured in 500 Art Quilts (Lark Books a division of Sterling Publishing Co. Inc.). She is a grateful recipient of a 2012 ARTicipate Endowment Fund project grant.
Her current work created with thread and acrylic paint, addresses the imprint of urban landscapes, architecture and simple objects on individual memory. Lacking figurative elements, each piece permits the viewer solitary interaction with the landscape and crystallizes the creative human spirit through the interplay of object and viewer, individuals and their personal narratives and fleeting memories.
