Biography - Maria Saracino

Born and raised in Ottawa, Maria worked as a graphic artist for 18 years. She discovered polymer clay in the mid 1990's and the creative possibilites of figurative sculptures. During that time, Maria was recognized by the Ontario Arts Council and was asked to participate in their Uniquely Ontario exhibit in Toronto. That was the turning point in her carreer and the motivation to pursue her dream of working as a professional artist. Her one-of-a-kind sculptures have been recognized by leading international publications and have won several awards as well as being included in museum exhibitions and galleries across Canada and the United States. Maria's biggest influences are Ron Mueck, Norman Rockwell and Joe Fafard.

"I search for those moments that bring peace and comfort to our everyday lives. My art reflects those moments. Through Sculpture I capture candid snapshots of life's simple pleasures. I want my audience to feel the connection to their own experience. My work is realistic with a touch of whimsy. I sculpt polymer clay and use textiles, wood and resin to complete my sculptures."- Maria Saracino
