Biography - Julie Berthelot

My hometown is Blind River, in Northern Ontario. I grew up there and have lived in Montreal, Victoria, the Caribbean islands and am now living in Aylmer, QC (in the Ottawa area).

I got my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal and, after starting my own business to sell my work, also got a degree in Small Business Management from Algonquin College, here in Ottawa.

The 'Urban Forest' series I've been working on for the last couple of years is inspired by Canadian landscape. It's an abstract and stylized representation of trees, fields and forest landscapes, heavily textured and made in acrylic paint on gallery canvas.

This series has been influenced by the Group of Seven and Emily Carr for their content and amazing use of light, Paul-Emile Borduas for his use of contrast and texture as well as Jackson Pollock for his experimentation with dropping paint directly onto canvas.
